The Working Party were commissioned by Phoenix Community Housing and The Heritage Lottery Fund to create film and audio work around the heritage of The Fellowship Inn - a historic, iconic old pub in Bellingham, Lewisham. We decided to open up its past and its present by creating an audio journey to guide people through its many colourful stories. We also set about making a contemporary short film examining what the area means to its modern day residents.
Working with local artist Lakeisha Lynch-Stevens, 10 local volunteers that we trained in Oral History research we conducted over 50 interviews, 12 open workshops for local people and a bespoke programme of work with pupils of Elfrida Primary School, delivering 35 Arts Awards, as the research phase for the project. This research was then poured over by the creative teams to make the work you can see sampled on this page; an interactive, group audio journey and remembrance ritual, around the pub, made of the many lives of its inhabitants and a community film to capture a snapshot of the area as it is now.
